Be Extraordinary

“How did he get to be president?” or “How did she become famous?” I could not always give a good answer to our children when they were growing up and filled with questions. Some questions I could answer with detail, if I was familiar with the person. So many times now on the Back 9 I enjoy reading true stories about the lives of others and what has made them successful not just in financial ways, but in the sense of accomplishment in all kinds of ways–from nobel prize winners to a guy born with no arms or legs but he can surf.

I love non-fiction the best–the true, the real, the captivating. When reading success stories, I am most encouraged by the unlikely success. You know these stories? Those people who should not have succeeded because of their challenging circumstances yet they achieve much despite the odds being stacked against them. The Bible is full of such promising true stories.

I am so encouraged when I read about Noah, David, Daniel, Esther, Moses, Abraham and even Jonah. There are many others as well, like Gideon. In today’s world, I love reading all that God has done in Mark Batterson’s life. He is a pastor who planted a church in Washington, D.C. and has written about all that God has done.

I literally could write pages on all the things I have read about in the lives of others that are just literally amazing. Several years ago I came to the complete realization that God’s desire is to take everyone of His children, people who have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior, and do incredible things in and through any of us. God’s absolute desire is for ALL OF HIS CHILDREN to experience Him in the supernatural realm and accomplish much.

How can this happen?! For every believer?! It is really very simple…very simple…but it takes our will being surrendered completely to HIS WILL. I absolutely love the Scripture found in Acts 4:13, “When they saw the COURAGE of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were ASTONISHED and they TOOK NOTE that these men HAD BEEN WITH JESUS” [emphasis mine].

You see, Peter and John had been called before the Sanhedrin after healing a lame man and were asked in verse 7, “By what power or what name did you do this?” When Peter went to answer, Scripture tells us in Acts 4:8, “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit said to them…”

Do you see? John and Peter were O-R-D-I-N-A-R-Y men…but they had been with JESUS and were filled with the HOLY SPIRIT.

Point of post…if you are reading this…you/me/we are all ordinary men/women BUT with God we are capable of the extraordinary.

The most important thing…don’t miss it….we have to be with Jesus.

Yes, we have to sit at His feet, in His presence and seek to be filled with His HOLY SPIRIT.

GOD is the same God today as He was then. His desire is to fill all of us with His HOLY SPIRIT, HIS PRESENCE and His guidance…for our lives. A life lived in the supernatural cannot be experienced without Jesus.

If this seems foreign to you, I encourage you to seek Jesus wherever you are. Seek Him with ALL YOUR HEART, YOUR SOUL AND MIND. When you do this, Scripture promises YOU WILL FIND HIM (see Jeremiah 29:13). It is there where you may be an ordinary man but, you will be enabled to do and accomplish the extraordinary that Jesus has for you!

You can’t qualify yourself. Jesus does that! I can honestly say that I look forward to writing about things in the future by living a surrendered life, committed to doing whatever, even when the “whatever” takes the courage we read that Peter and John had. I invite you to join me in experiencing the “power of the Holy Spirit” in your lives to will and to act according to HIS GOOD PURPOSE.
