A Drop In The Bucket

Have you ever felt like your efforts didn’t matter?

Sometimes I have been so tempted not to “act” because there is this voice, which I have finally learned to ignore, that says, “It won’t matter. That little time or money won’t make a difference. You would just be putting a band-aid on a gushing wound!” Yep…finally, in the Back 9 I have learned that this negative voice is the “voice of the enemy!”

Psychologists call it the “drop in the bucket mentality” which is the mentality Satan wants us to have and own! Allow me to explain…this thinking has even been proven by studies conducted by the marketing departments at major research universities. The studies researched what prompts people to “act” or to “give,” especially when it comes to money or time.

In the studies a letter was sent out…the first letter gave overwhelming statistics of massive starvation in Africa and asked for help. The second letter sent out was about a little seven year old girl in Africa, named Rokia, who was starving. Again, the letter asked for help. After the study was completed, the results showed the letter highlighting Rokia raised double the money of the letter about the masses!

The study concluded that when people think that the amount they give “won’t matter,” they give much less…they don’t even view themselves in the solution–the “power of one!” or the “power of my gift will make a difference!” That, my friends, is a lie from the “pit!” Don’t buy in! Don’t!!!!

Satan really wants to stop you from thinking you can make a difference in this world! If I could turn this post into an audio track, I would say as loudly as I could….DON’T BUY THE LIE!!

YOU….CAN….MAKE….A ….DIFFERENCE!!!!

Whether it be your testimony, your $5, your willingness once a year to volunteer at a homeless shelter…whatever you can give…..DO IT!!

Look at the story of the widow in Mark 12:41-44, “And he [Jesus] sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, ‘Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.’”

It is evident from this story that God looks at the heart…the motives behind the giving…not the amount!!! HE is looking for a willing and obedient heart. Just read the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 in John chapter 6 in the Bible. “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” Here is a prime example of human thinking…..Don’t underestimate what God can do with your “WILLING AND OBEDIENT HEART!”

You see…somehow we can become somewhat prideful when we think it is up to us and us alone. What is really up to us is to “give” from what we have…..and trust God with the outcome!!! But if we were to unpack our thinking…we would realize we are not at all acknowledging the power of God…factored in with our actions!

So…plain and simple, recognize the “enemy’s voice” the next time you are asked to give, volunteer or share….Don’t buy the lie…that if you can’t solve the whole problem…it won’t matter. Give out of what you have…and expect God to show up and show out!! That is really when we see God the most…in our weakness…then HE is made strong!

Understand…you are equipped to help “thousands” with God’s multiplication system!!! It is not dependent on our human…understanding. It is supernatural.

I urge you today…to OWN the mindset of …my gift…and time can be magnified…with the fingers of God…..stop thinking in “small terms” in your economy as a “drop in the bucket”…think “God’s economy”. Your gift, in God’s hands, could change thousands of lives. I dare you to change your thinking!

The one place I see in Scripture where God Himself is urging you to “test” Him is in giving…..Malachi 3:10-12, “‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,’ says the Lord Almighty.'”

My point? Recognize the lie of the enemy, understand God’s economy is not up to nor dependent on my/your limited understanding….embrace the truth of scripture…and invest in God’s Stock Exchange.

2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
