When is Enough, Enough?

When is enough, enough? Outraged is a mild word used to describe my feelings toward the segments of Miley Cyrus’ vulgar antics on a world stage that were featured on the 11 o’clock news a few weeks ago. I’m not sad. I am mad that there is enough support of MTV in the past that they have once again pushed the envelope to openly display pornography. I stopped watching MTV a long time ago when it was my opinion that they banked money from promoting the “raunchy of life” and Miley’s display was by far the “raunchiest”. A grotesque display on all levels of a young female performer who definitely wanted to change her image which brought her so much success. Her new image seeks to attract a new fan base who would love and adore the “new mature” her! It sickens me that there is even an audience in America that would approve of such.

She definitely achieved her “shock factor” and probably banked some major money, but what did it cost our society??? A heck of a lot! When? when? when? are we gonna take action and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH? WHEN ARE WE GOING TO BOYCOTT AND TAKE OURSELVES OUT OF SHOCK MODE AND TAKE SOME ACTION and not leave it to the “assumed world changers!”?? If you live in America, and are a citizen, you/I have a responsibility to shape and be involved in the way our society is headed.

I have heard little mention of the married man, who is a father, that danced, sang and played along with her! Where is the outrage over his actions? SERIOUSLY??? This man should be held in the same contempt as the girl for his participation, and he is the senior, more “mature one” (tongue in cheek). Everyone has a voice and, today, all those voices who were appalled by MTV and how they allowed such a display should make their voices heard. It takes actions behind the OUTRAGE to change things. “IF you have time to whine and complain about something, then you have the time to do something about it!” (Anthony J. D’Angelo)

As responsible adults we have to realize and teach our kids that there is one thing that drives all of these kinds of things and it is money. If we buy the magazines, the music, and watch the movies that promote these kinds of things, we are saying, “Give us more”. We are putting money in their pockets to fund more and encouraging them to do it. WE have to trace it back to our daily lives—where our money goes, where our time goes and what WE ALLOW AND THIRST FOR. The quote, “Evil prospers when good men do nothing” is so true. When are we going to STAND UP!? As Christians we are in a “spiritual coma” and we are getting a wake up call. God is ringing the bell and we should have the “ears” to hear it. It is time to “take up the cross” and follow Him. In Scripture it tells us that if we are not being persecuted for our faith, then maybe we need to examine our own lives. Meaning persecution is a “good sign” that we are living a “sold out” life to Christ.

We have allowed Proverbs 7:10-23 to be promoted in our homes through TV, “And behold the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart. She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay home; now in the street, now in the MARKET and at every corner she lies in wait………with much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him. All at once he follows her; as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast. till an arrow pierces its liver; he does not know it will cost him his life.”

I believe our charge as Christians also comes from the book of Proverbs in chapter 24 verse 10 where it says, “If you faint in the day of ADVERSITY, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, ‘Behold, we did not know this,’ does not HE who weighs the heart perceive it? Does He who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will HE not repay man according to his work?”

If you are reading this journal, I believe if you are inactive in taking steps, “action steps,” to defend and fight for what you believe, then you just may be giving “lip service” to what you say you believe. It is my belief that “Actions follow convictions, not knowledge” and, “Whenever you find the world against you, just turn around and lead the world.”-anonymous
