No Excuses

As our children were growing up, there were very few times we wanted to hear their “excuses” for not following through on things we had asked them to do. We would always say, “People make time to do what’s important to them.” We felt that if we had asked them to do something, it should be a priority in their lives. We also learned early on from a parenting course we took to not exasperate our children. We learned to step back and look at the “context” of a situation when our kids didn’t follow through. We were also reminded to give them a time frame leeway. If they were involved in something at the moment, we wanted to respect what they were doing at that moment so as not to frustrate them. For example, if they were being allowed to watch something on TV and we wanted them to clean their room or take out the trash, we would not ask them to do it in the middle of what they were watching, but asked them to do it after.

In the Back 9, I continually try to lead by influence. As an adult there is always time to do what we deem as important or a priority. I often point out that people seem to do and get done what is truly important to them. I find that leaves little room for “excuses” on the really important things in life. It all boils down to what we deem as a “PRIORITY” OR what kind of “PRICE TAG” we put on something in our lives.

In Romans 1:20 it states, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” In the next verse it states, “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal men and birds and animals and reptiles.”

I pose a question to myself, first, and then to those reading this journal today, “What am I/you/we deeming as a priority today?” Are we putting the right price tags on people and time? God has poured out His blessings in nature alone!! I urge you to read through Romans and ask God with an open hand…..Where am I making excuses?? Where do I need to glorify You with my time and money? WE can all be guilty at times of having our thinking become futile and our time be given to things that really don’t matter…..Choose today…..to get rid of all excuses that may be hindering your walk with God…..Drop your hands with regards to your schedule and allow God to rule! Wisdom resides where God rules!
