I Wish…

We always want what we don’t have! I wish I could sing! I really do. When people confuse me with Dawn Smith Jordan, I just smile and say, “Thank you,” and then say to myself, “I wish!” I am a car singer. I love to ride around in my car (by myself) and sing as loud as I want to without anyone hearing!! Michael, Whitney and Chris Tomlin to name a few have sung many duets with me over the years. I have to tone it down in church or my kids give me very strange looks. I tried to wear a headset with an iPod on the golf course so that I could listen to my favorite music while following the kids. It was too tempting for me to belt out a tune so I had to stop. I opted for reading a book to relieve the stress which relieved my kids. :))))

My home office is between our two sons’ bedrooms. I am usually in my office very early in the morning. This summer it has been so much fun to hear and be reminded that Thomas likes to sing in the shower. Yes, I had forgotten that he was our shower singer. I might add, please, please, please do not tease him about this bit of trivia. He will probably kill me for giving out this family secret. I don’t want this ministry to die an early death due to blabbing too much about our family.

God gave the gift of music. It is something that most people enjoy. This idea is going to sound so simple but it is something I was advised to do several years ago. It has been some of the best advice I have ever been given. I needed to strengthen and focus more in my prayer life. It was dry and monotonous. I was asked by a wise person if I had ever tried to play Christian instrumental music very softly while I prayed. Of course that was something I had never ever done! Since all the advice this person has given me had been “SPOT ON”, I decided to try it!!

All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW!!! That little, simple piece of advice has revolutionized my prayer life!! It has focused me, put me in more of a spirit of worship, allowed me to sit more quietly, feel His presence and hear His voice. It has basically taken me to all-time new heights with God.

Scripture has so much to say about song, praise and music. Applying this simple, but oh so POWERFUL suggestion, has been exhilarating. Psalm 40:3, “And He hath put a new song in my mouth, praise unto our God; many shall see it and fear and shall trust in the Lord.” And Psalm 96:1, “O sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord all the earth.” And finally, music and prayer go together as described in James 5:13, “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray, Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.”

As my call has been to encourage others, I want to share this simple, but very powerful, advice! Blessings for a “STEPPED UP PRAYER LIFE!”
