What Are You Reading?

One of my favorite subjects to write about is reading. Yes, reading in the last half of the Front 9 of my life has opened up a wide world for me. Until I started reading, I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know!

Seriously…I guess for lack of a better word, at times, I just walked around ignorant. I do not in any way claim to be brilliant or know everything but I can honestly say in the last 6 years I have greatly increased my knowledge. In the age of information it is so much easier now to find great books to read on any subject…by taking the advice of a wise friend and purchasing a “Kindle,” I am able to buy a book at midnight if I choose to do so. Or, I can travel with 20 books and not worry about the “weight!”

The other day I was sitting in a waiting room of a doctor’s office talking to a friend about a great book she had read. I was able to purchase it on the spot and begin reading it. Heck, if you are not a reader, you can purchase “audio books” digitally now. NO excuses not to learn and grow.

I have especially loved reading my Bible in my quiet time and add on books that others have written. Books I describe as Christian content books where God has inspired others to write accounts of their spiritual journey or give personal testimonies of applying scripture to their lives and what God has done in them and through them. Making the decision to add such books has led to so many positive things in my life.

I came to realize and apply the scripture found in Proverbs 18:15, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, the ears of the wise seek it out.” And Proverbs 19:6, “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; he who cherishes understanding prospers.” I can honestly say that God has taken my willingness to read and seek knowledge and has prospered my life through it. It is my desire to share and encourage others to know that reading the “right books” can enhance and prosper your life in ways you cannot imagine.

God’s desire for anyone is to grow and change and seek knowledge. This truly leads to a life of “significance!” In Proverbs 28:19 it states, “He who works his land will have abundant food…” Work the land of your mind…read and seek knowledge. God will multiply the loaves and fishes in your life. Start with His Word, the Bible, and use add on books that can open up all kinds of possibilities for your growth.

Get wisdom!
