A Sense of Humor

God has such a sense of humor. Sometimes I just smile, especially when the unexpected happens. Those God moments that only He can orchestrate. Those things you don’t predict. You don’t see them coming and boom…….they happen. After they happen……I/maybe you? sit and reflect and you say to God and yourself……”Wow! That was You, God, wasn’t it??!!!” Allow me to explain!

Bill and I got a text from a dear friend the other day. He was going to be in town overnight and asked to have dinner!! What a delight to spend time with an old and dear friend. Now that our kids are in college and not playing junior golf, there are so many people we miss seeing. It was so refreshing to catch up on life, kids and have quality time with a dear friend!! We love this guy. He is kind, soft spoken and genuine!!! He is friendly and outgoing, but you wouldn’t call him feisty……that would be me!!! LOL!! He is loved by literally all who know him!

You see, as the night went on and we were catching up, he was a friend we could share with and vent a few frustrations. Someone who I could really “let my hair down” with and not feel judged for my emotions and feelings. What a gift of a friend!!!! He was kind, compassionate, a great listener and most of all, “validated my feelings!!” What a gift!! He even brought a gift, “fresh cinnamon bread!” I love how God orchestrates those moments, moments He knows you need, and you don’t even know you need them!! HE provides and sends an “unexpected messenger” in your path!!!! This visit was what I call, “a drink in the dessert!” Refreshing and renewing and comforting……. It was reviving!!!! Like I said, We didn’t expect it and didn’t realize we needed it, until he left!!!!

The next morning I sent him a text after my quiet time to thank him for his “thoughtful listening and friendship!!” His text to me was so encouraging, “Let’s pray for the wisdom and guidance for the proper course of action. The answer will come. It is difficult to understand but we learn from our struggles. Our faith will be renewed. Wonderful seeing you! We love you!” What an awesome friend!!! Just at the right time!!!

You see, I know this friend is a Godly man. He reached out to love and fellowship, even bringing a gift of bread. He encouraged us so much! But he also encouraged and reminded me to reach out, to visit and to give of myself to others. He was living out 1 Timothy 6:18-19, “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”

This friend’s good deed was reaching out to fellowship and to love, a gift for sure!!! He was very “generous to listen” and be a friend! He had no idea that his “gift of listening” was such a treasured gift and “much needed drink”!!! Don’t ever underestimate the impact of reaching out. When you feel the urge to do so and pay a visit, you may not have any idea what is on the other side of the door. It could be a REAL opportunity……to be a generous and much needed “drink in the desert!”
