What Are You Telling Yourself?

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Self talk! What we say to ourselves is extremely important to the outcome of our lives. Did you know that your life moves in the direction of your most dominate thoughts? So what are you thinking about and even breaking it down further…what are you thinking about yourself? Whether positive or negative, our actions are inspired–driven by our thoughts. Of course we can’t positive think our way to a great life. But positive self talk is God’s desires for us rather than negative self talk that we all can get trapped in. Philippians 4:8 states, “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” God created us so He knows the brain will believe what you tell it the most. He desires for us to “positive affirm ourselves.” We are His creation, created to do good works.

It is extremely important to give special attention to the “auto pilot” we allow our brains to function on. If we are inclined to think negatively and talk down to ourselves, we need to make a change. In order to make a change we have to change the way we think. Then it will change the way we feel about ourselves, which will dramatically change the actions we take.

Examine your thoughts. What is a struggle for you right now? God loves you and He desires for you to “positive self talk” to realize that you were created in His image. Ask God to show you in His word and reveal truth. I strongly suggest you to make a Positive affirmation statement for yourself and read it daily. God gives us hundreds of positive affirmation statements in Scripture:

God gives me power when I am worn out, and strength when I am weak. Isaiah 40:8
With God in my life, all things are possible. Matthew 19:26
I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God. Psalms 139:14
God is for me so no one can ever be against me. Romans 8:31
As I draw near to God, He draws near to me. James 4:8
I can never be separated from the love of God. Romans 8: 35-39

More than ever I/me/you are responsibly for embracing our lives and all that God has for me/you/ us! He desires a life of significance for everyone and it starts with how you see yourself. Scripture could not be more clear ….. Proverbs 23:7 it states, “for as a man thinketh, so he is…..” It is a simple statement…so simple we can glaze over it….but it is a very POWERFUL…STATEMENT! Joyce Meyers has written a book entitled, “The Battlefield of the Mind,” she is right…God knew our battles would be fought in our thoughts…he created us…he knows we have to feed, examine, protect and create our thoughts aligning them with the word of truth.

I encourage anyone today……take a “thought inventory”…..trace your thoughts…..read God’s word….we are created in God’s image…and with that being said…It is a must that we see ourselves…as He see us and control…nuture….and… cultivate our thoughts. The direction of our lives depends on it.
