Change

All people who grow old do not necessarily grow up!! Just like eagles are pushed out of the nest, forced to spread their wings and fly and then learn to soar on their own, like they were created to do…..growing takes change and it takes being pushed.

WE all need to embrace change and be willing to risk the unknown to grow. The unknown can be known but it still takes a decision to change. Of course, it is hard to leave comfort and most people resist leaving comfort….but when we choose an attitude of embracing a willingness to grow and stretch ourselves, we find it often requires us to be uncomfortable, inconvenienced, and sometimes, we fail.

It is very hard for me to be around “flat world” people. I truly thrive when I can breathe the same air as “round world” people. I call them “champion” people. People who are unwilling to explore all that they were created to be and allow a “no” or a “rejection” by a group or individual to define what they do or who they are will never grow up. They may grow old, but growing up is very different from growing old.

I define growing up as becoming what I like to call a “round world person.” Refusing to allow other people to tell you who you are, but choosing instead to accept and allow your Creator to do that! At 52, I can give testimony to this, because I have lived with rejection, multiple “NO’s”, and watched other people live with the same thing….but it is our choice whether we allow others to define our possibilities or to allow God. In scripture it tells us that in Him we are a new creation, created in Christ to do good things.

2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

I think of the many people in history from whom we can learn.

We certainly can learn from the Wright Brothers…many of us enjoy getting on an airplane and flying somewhere.
I love electricity…thank you, Benjamin Franklin.
Or, how about my cell phone? Love it….thank you, Alexander Graham Bell and Steve Jobs.
I love social media….thank you, Mark Zuckerberg.

I could go on and on…but if you study all of these people, they were overcomers…they had dreams, vision, and they certainly didn’t allow discomfort….rejection…..or the opinions of others stop them. What I have come to understand in the gym is that “resistance” builds muscle…. it may weaken it temporarily, but eventually it strengthens and builds the muscle.

Now….I have no idea of the faith of some of the men mentioned above…but I can say…that with God and your created and unique, DNA, the possibilities are unlimited. “With God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26) I love the verse found in Psalm 34:7-10, “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his saints for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”

There is much that He desires us to accomplish and there will be heavenly rewards. We may not gain the fame of the “world” but we gain something far greater…fulfilling our created purpose. Our pastor recently called it, “The power of one!” One life given over and entrusted to the will and created purpose of God…can produce a harvest of unthinkable things that can only be achieved through a surrendered life to the omnipotent (all-knowing) Holy God.

What about great men and women of faith in the Bible? Moses, Noah, Daniel, Saul changed to Paul, Esther, and Rahab (the prostitute)–her courage…and faith…delivered and protected many….I know for sure they are remembered and were significant in the world, but I can only imagine the rewards they will enjoy in eternity. God desires our focus to be on eternity not worldly fame. I have heard it said that our life here on earth is a “mist” or a “vapor” in light of eternity Psalm 39:5, “…each man’s life is but a breath”…I absolutely believe this to be true…….With this being said…….

How will you use and grow your created gift, the “POWER OF ONE”?

Will you entrust it to a mighty God and discipline yourself to face the challenges life brings so that you will have a significance that will live on after you are gone?

….and one day reap “heavenly rewards”….

Or, will you choose to grow old and never grow up?

Proverbs 16:9 states, “In his heart a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps.” God has a created plan for each one of us. God is such a loving God that He gives us a choice…He doesn’t force us to do anything….

What will you choose today?
Who will you allow to define you?
Who will you become and who will you affect?
Will your “power of one be significant” in eternity?
Will you allow God to direct each of your steps?

The great news is everyone can choose significance. The bad news is not everyone will make that choice! Choose significance…choose to take your power of one.…and allow God’s purpose for you to be what you seek.

Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Seek His purpose for you, today…drown out all other voices. Seek His purpose today….and be “significant” in gaining eternal rewards.
