Germs

Five hours after getting off the plane from New York City, Collins was very sick. Yep…I am convinced she got some “germ” on the airplane. For the three days leading up to Christmas morning, she had the gift of the “throw ups!” Looking back….I have given thought to how dirty and germie airplanes are….YUK!

There is absolutely no time, none, during all the flights and delays for a crew to come in and sanitize an airplane. It will not keep me from ever flying but from now on when I fly I am going to take some precautions to reduce the germie risk. I wonder if people will one day always wear masks on airplanes because of all the germs?

Long ago, when doctors performed surgery, they didn’t wear masks or take the precautions they do today….simply because they had no idea of the “germs” lurking that were so harmful! Today….great strides have been made in protection against germs. Hotels also go to great lengths to PROTECT against all the unseen germs!

The above description is exactly how I see demons. Yep…they exist. They are harmful. They can reek havoc in our lives. They can even kill. They are unseen. But I am not walking around in fear of them taking my life. I am just more aware and knowledgeable now as I have matured, just like the medical professionals. I now realize they exist but they are not my friend. And, I have learned to take the necessary precautions to prevent them from harming me!

Demons are just like little invisible germs looking for someone to infect. I will continue to fly on airplanes, realizing the “germ” problem will always exist, but I will take more steps to insulate and undergird myself. The same holds true for the demons that exist. I must take the necessary steps to properly “guard” my heart and my life from that known enemy too!

Abiding in Christ is the perfect sanctuary for warding off demons. Psalm 91:1 reminds us that, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” The only real weapon a demon has is its big mouth! We are never told in scripture to fear demons. We are just warned to be aware that they exist and to defeat them. You are instructed to “live in Christ!” Our role as Christians to protect/guard is not a passive one. If you study scripture, the instructions we are given are to be active and proactive!

Take a look at Ephesians 6:10-18, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, TAKE UP the full armor of God, that you may be ABLE to resist the evil day, and having done everything to STAND FIRM.” [emphasis mine]

God is our Commanding Officer. Compare it to the United States military. We have a fabulous military that is engaged every day in training and being proactive in the defense of America. America knows it has enemies and knows they are real. It should be the same for Christians. We have an enemy, Satan, not people. Satan can influence people but our real battle is a spiritual one. We are to be active. God equips us and has given us everything we need to DEFEND. We just need to look to our Commanding Officer for direction. He has guaranteed victory, but it is our job to be ACTIVE in our FAITH!

Pray and ask God…Am I taking the steps I need to lead a victorious life in Christ? God did not create us to live a defeated, defenseless life. He created us to walk boldly and courageously, leading a life of significance with Him as our Commanding Officer. Living in Christ and abiding in Him is the first step to defeating the enemy that exists and is prevalent….unseen yet as prevalent as germs!

Be encouraged–Psalm 61:3, “for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.”
