Pinky Toes Are Important

The least little thing can throw you off balance.

For the second time in my life…I have broken the same “pinky” toe on my left foot. Ouch…ouch…ouch…and I did cry, “Wee, wee, wee all the way home” In fact, I cried, “wee wee wee” right when it happened. Never really fainted in my life…but I went down…and semi-out…:) Thankfully, my great husband, Bill, and friends, Bill and Karen Harwood, came to my aid.

Today’s post is really about balance.

I never realized until my first “pinky” pounding six years ago…how important a pinky toe was to my “balance”. Now with the second “klutz” moment…..my memory is quickly jarred with the “balance” issues I am going to face in the coming weeks. If you have never pounded your “pinky” toe…learn from me right now how something as small as your pinky toe….can affect all movement of your body when you want to move forward. It is slow and wobbly and I can promise you, “running” isn’t an option at all.

Often times in life…we can be hindered in our progress forward in life…kind of stuck. We don’t realize that something “small” but important can be throwing off our whole moving forward in life. In fact, it can be something so small that we don’t even see it. Like an “unconfessed sin”. Or we think we have forgiven but we might need to re-forgive. Unforgiveness can creep back into our lives so re-forgiving, at times, is important.

We can experience “low-level anger”. Letting the sun go down on our anger can indeed open the door for Satan to keep us stuck……..

I have learned with age, which brings experience, that sometimes we can be sooooo “familiar” with our sin that we don’t recognize it as sin. It slowly becomes a “part of us” and we are literally walking around unaware. It throws our “balance” off in our walk, our close relationship with God.

For me, it was a “low level anger”…a “frustration” which I had become accustomed to. I didn’t recognize it. When the heat was turned up in my life, something unrelated to my “nursing hurt/anger,” I would react to simple frustrations with over the top anger…not realizing I had some unresolved anger…over past hurts.

Now this may sound really strange and unfamiliar to you. It did to me at first…”unrecognized anger”. I had a “pile of straws” on my back, that I couldn’t see, from people pleasing. When I finally welcomed insight from some wise friends and counsel, they gently, and prayerfully, led me to a place that I could put on “spiritual glasses” to see clearly that I had let the “sun go down on my anger” over and over. And now Satan had a “foothold”.

Little did I realize how the “little pinky” things gone unrecognized had mounted to throw me spiritually “off balance.” Man pleasing will always lead to “anger”. We have to focus on God pleasing. When we are pleasing God, He will handle all other things. Some people may not be happy. A fact I had to come to terms with:)

We all have blind spots and that is just a fact. Areas that need work. For me, trying to please people…had become such an overwhelming task…that I was angry.

I just couldn’t do it…make everyone happy with me all the time.

My focus of what I thought was a “good thing” was actually a bad thing. I finally recognized that God was the “one whom I should want to please”. Man is “sinful”. Me bouncing around to other people’s emotions which I could not control…kept me spinning a “silent,” “unrecognized”…anger.

I want to encourage you with this…if you feel “off balance”…”stuck”…”blah”…maybe, just maybe, there is something in your life that you are so “familiar with”….it is “such a part of you”…that you need another set of eyes…that can help you see “those straws on your back” that you need to confess to God and give to HIM.

It can be small, “pinky” things that can seem insignificant…but in reality can stop any “progress forward!”

It only takes a little yeast to make dough rise as described in I Corinthians 5:6-7. “…Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are.” Something small can throw us off balance just as easily as the yeast makes the dough rise.

I urge you to pray. Ask God to show you any area you may be blind to…numb to….or too familiar with…He will be faithful to show you.

Amazing what can happen to put you in a place to “run,” move briskly and freshly forward in your walk. For me, it was like being picked up and carried…a Sabbath rest in the Father’s arms. HE desires for us to live free….live in Him…enjoying the fruit of His healing, help/deliverance from all things that hinder….

Hebrews 12:1, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

“A little thorn may cause much suffering. A little cloud may hide the sun. Little foxes spoil the vines, and little sins do mischief to the tender heart. These little sins burrow in the soul, and make it so full of that which is hateful to Christ, that he will hold no comfortable fellowship and communion with us. A great sin cannot destroy a Christian, but a little sin can make him miserable…” ~Charles Spurgeon
