Security

I have always loved our “front door.” Some days I just go sit on our front steps and look down the street or around at my neighbors’ houses. We have a great view of our entire street. There are glass panes on either side of our front door so when someone rings the doorbell, you can see who is at the door before you open it.

In the last four years I have had some very unusual and unpredicted visits at our front door. We have had Girl Scouts, neighborhood children, strangers, people I knew but wasn’t expecting, deliveries, scary people, friendly people, unkind people. I’ve even heard the doorbell ring only to find NO one at the front door!?!

Just recently, we found a bullet in our front drive and a 9mm clip of bullets in our front bushes. This was kind of unnerving to me…that someone was actually close to our front door with not just one bullet, but a whole clip of bullets. Needless to say, I realize anyone at anytime can come to our front door. I have decided, like many others, to make our home more protected and secure. I won’t go into details of our steps but I can say, WE ARE MORE PROTECTED from the “unknown!” I am amazed at what is now available in terms of home security!

The subject of my post is “Security!”

I have a very blunt friend whom I love. Two years ago when I felt threatened and sought his advice, he simply said, “If someone really wants you dead, you can’t stop them!” Yikes! This question was posed to him after I had received a very strange phone call of warning. The most bizarre incident, so far, in my life.

As I thought about this while he was elaborating on his thoughts and reasoning, I realized, “He was right!” I’m not a person who is easily scared. My parents never were. They were cautious and taught me to be, but they taught me to be “courageous” and to live a “courageous” life!” I had, at that point, to contemplate my “security.”

What made me feel secure?

I took it to my prayer chair and spent some time reading scripture and praying. My friend also said, “I would not let the threat or warning take you off course in what God has called you to do!” If God has called you, NO human can stop you! Amen and amen! Proverbs 21:30, “There is no wisdom, no insight, no PLAN that can succeed against the Lord.”

As I began praying, God washed over me a complete peace and comfort…like I have never ever experienced in my life. I thought about death, my death, which honestly I have never given much, if any, thought to. I even thought about what my funeral would be like. For example, what “songs” would I want sung? Side note: one song I insist upon is “All Is Well.” In fact, it is the song I walked the aisle to as MOB at Collins’ wedding.

Back to the point of my post–I encourage anyone to get to the place with God…where you are secure in Christ. It is at that point that the words of Paul in Philippians 1:21-22 become So ENCOURAGING, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean FRUITFUL labor for me…” Paul goes on to talk about being torn. Wanting to stay on earth and do the will of the Father but the better choice was going to heaven to be with Jesus. To be in Christ’s presence was far better than anything…. I agree.

As I was forced from the alarming phone call to “give some thought” to my security, God was very faithful to “STILL MY HEART.” To encourage me…as MY DEFENDER and MY PROTECTOR.

If you are facing a situation today and you feel that you have to face the “unknown,” which could be “death,” RUN to the Lord. Open His word. Start in the book of Psalms. When I start to feel “insecure,” that is my book of choice from the Bible. David wrote most of the Psalms. Some of it written when he was literally running for his life.

There are so many Psalms that I love. I will leave you with one of my favorites, Psalm 34:1-5, “I will extol the Lord at all times; his praises will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together; I sought the Lord and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”

The best security system in the world is found in giving your life to Christ and allowing HIM to be your source for everything. He has the power and authority to do things you can’t even wrap your mind around. He is the GREAT I AM!
