Spreading

Yellow is everywhere; it is that time of year…..Spring has Sprung. It looks like a “yellow baby powder bottle” exploded on our back porch. I am one of those people who sneezes a dozen times every day in the spring, especially when I step outside. I am also the one who cleans our back porch daily so that I can sit outside and write. I love to be outside this time of year with all the flowers blooming, trees sprouting new lime green leaves and the birds chipping! It refreshes my soul. I absolutely love spring.

I am also one who complains about the pollen. It can be a real nuisance but if you stop and think about “pollination,” I absolutely love what it does…It is the soul reason we have the things I love such as beautiful trees, flowers and plants. It is vital for “NEW GROWTH.” It leads to the creation of new seeds that grow into new plants! Funny…how I/we complain about something that might cause us discomfort or for some much discomfort…but it is absolutely necessary for NEW LIFE!

While sitting on my back porch after 45 minutes of cleaning and vacuuming, yes, vacuuming my porch because if I sweep it, I sneeze 50 times instead of 10! LOL! Anyway….while I was enjoying the porch, I began to compare the discomfort of the pollen and the beautiful outcome to the discomfort we go through to experience NEW Growth in our relationship with Christ. Growth that also benefits others we come in contact with …..The outcome from the discomfort is well worth it! Quite often it is beautiful.

There are hundreds of scriptures in the Bible that talk about new growth, yielding new fruit, and harvest. It is always God’s intent that we grow and yield new fruit. It is His job to bring the harvest from our desire and growth. WE have to pollinate. IF I could choose the way I wanted to pollinate, it would be in the same manner as the animals. When animals such as bees, butterflies, moths, flies, and hummingbirds pollinate plants, it’s accidental. They are not trying to pollinate the plant. Usually they are at the plant to get food, the sticky pollen or a sweet nectar made at the base of the petals. When feeding, the animals accidentally rub against the stamens and get pollen stuck all over themselves. When they move to another flower to feed, some of the pollen can rub off onto this new plant’s stigma.

How does this look for me as a Christian? If I could, I would like to go about my daily routine with Jesus stuck all over me, rubbing up against people (simply whoever I come in contact with). Those people I figuratively rub up against would be so touched with HIM and, as I seek to fulfill His significant plan for me, I would find that I promote new growth in others by accident….just by being who He created me to be and the “yellow stuff that sticks” Jesus would ooze out in all areas of my life…..just living it and not thinking about it! Just being!

In Hebrews 10:24 it states, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” The best way I know to do this is living Psalms 1:1-3, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the ways of the sinners, nor sits in the seats of scoffers, but his delight is in the Law of the Lord, and on his laws he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of waters that yield its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither, in all that he does, HE PROSPERS.” ……He promises prosperity which means new growth in us and in others with whom we come in contact.

I remind myself/you that in order to have new growth, discomfort is part of the process, just like the discomfort most of us endure with pollen. We may not like the process but we all love the beauty of new growth and the taste of good fruit. Look at James 1:2-4, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith DEVELOPS/PRODUCES perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

So, as you enjoy the beauty of spring and Easter, with Good Friday right around the corner, think about what covers you? Are you “yellow” and “sticky” with Jesus?? Would you like to just illuminate Jesus in your daily comings and goings without knowing it or without having to try hard? Consider….meditating on His Word….so that….You can be full and sticky…..

If you are facing a time of difficulty, the kind that often come before the new growth sprouts, do not give up. Do not despair. God brings beauty from ashes. He makes us into a planting that displays His splendor as Isaiah 61:3 reminds us. “To comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”
