Timing

There are so many lessons God desires for us to learn. One that I have learned over my life is that “timing” is key. For example, the timing of getting married, the timing of trying to have children, the timing of making a business decision, the timing to spend money or not, the timing of an apt word…..so many times success, or the lack of it, depends on the timing we choose, or better stated, the timing we have allowed God to show us.

I have learned from my failures that my own timing can really stink…when I am operating in the “flesh,” meaning reacting with high emotions–be it joyful, sad, angry or frustrated (which are very similar). Age and doing it “wrong” many times have taught me self-control and patience acquired only through a consistent, growing personal relationship with Christ. I have learned to take the time to filter even the smallest things through the “fingertips” of God. Ephesians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” [emphasis mine]

Timing of decisions like when to speak, listen, or engage is key in not only doing the right thing but in being the most effective. For example….in the last six months I have had someone get upset with me. I received a text from them and clearly they were “sideways” with me. The old Sherry and flesh would have immediately responded, but the growing and more mature, Spirit-led Sherry has learned to “STEP BACK” read, re-read, then take it straight to prayer…and if it is not a dire emergency, let it “SIT!” John 15:4, “Abide in me, and I in you…”

This simple step…which has required much self-control and patience on my part has allowed God to be…an EVER PRESENT HELP! Yes…it has taught me to STOP….pray and allow for God’s direction in all circumstances. In life, we are all imperfect people in need of a Holy God.. and God very much CAN and WIll work in all circumstances with guidance, conviction, forgiveness, direction, humility and enable us to resolve most things as far as it concerns us.

Sometimes we can’t control the situation or someone else’s response or opinion, but we can control the timing and Godly direction and our response. After all, that is what we are accountable for. Then and then only is there real peace and comfort…in knowing it was God’s direction and His timing. Sherry used to be the front runner. No longer! Sometimes I fail, but not nearly as often because I’m learning to put scripture into practice:

Pray continually (I Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing”).
Seek God continually (Psalm 105:4, “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”).
Trust His timing (Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:”).

These practices have allowed me to see God in a way that has allowed for “show up and show out”….in my life at a level greater than I have experienced in the past.

I have found that the key to success in decision making is taking it to the “Maker” and allowing for “HIS” timing is what puts us in the best position of success. Many times I have found His timing was not mine and I have just had to “surrender” to His timing. The more I have surrendered and “dropped my hands” to my fleshly timing a unique thing has happened….HIS timing has been the Perfect timing regardless of how I felt! John 15:5, “…for apart from me you can do nothing.”

Thank God he has shown me to rely less and less on my emotions. Emotions can play bad tricks on us, if we allow those to be our timing and decision guide. I encourage you to examine how you are make decisions–big and small–Whose time are you operating on?

Is it yours?
Or God’s?

If you are sincere about knowing ….God will not disappoint!

Ephesians 3:20, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.”

Psalm 34:10, “The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”
