Amen and Amen! And, wow!
This is what I need to read several times a day! Our words have major impact. So much so that God’s Word says in Matthew 12:36, “…that everyone will have to give an account on the day of judgment for every idle word they have spoken.” This is truly sobering. I have heard it said, “we weave with our words what we will wear in heaven.” Our words speak life or death as we are reminded of in Proverbs 18:21.
Our words impact others, they impact us, and they impact our future.
Have you ever heard anyone say something cruel, mean, or cutting and then they say, “I was only kidding!?” Well, just an FYI— mean words are not a joke. You say you didn’t mean it but you said it…and the words hurt no matter your intention!
My prayer is that this helps someone and please know…..when I write, I have 10 fingers pointing at me. I write from a point of what God is showing me–for me–in hopes that someone else may benefit as well!
The latest study on communication says we expend around 5,000 words a day, not including texts, emails or social media. Do we use our words to bless and encourage or curse? Words account for only 7% of the way we communicate. The other 93% is our body language and tone! I wonder what would happen if someone recorded us for several days and we could watch the play back? We would not only hear our words but our tone as well and we would SEE our body language. I think I want to work overtime on this before I am recorded…yikes…the fact of the matter is God sees and He has been seeing!
Do you ever stop and ask yourself…what am I communicating? Am I a murderer? If you watch TV at all, you don’t see people killed just with guns, you literally see words stabbing others to death. There is blood splatter everywhere. We NEED WORD CONTROL more than gun control!
I can tell you what is in demand in our growing, bullying and sarcastic culture…people who will speak love, encouragement, hope and life! It has got to start somewhere…so please share this post if you agree…and let’s all get started! No time like the present!
Have you ever thought about..…wherever you go, there you are? Word control starts with how you speak to yourself. We can be our own worst critic. Am I right?
We need to fire the “critic” and be our own “Personal Coach!”
We need to know that when Christ looks at us, it is an overwhelming, unconditional love that He sees. We are imperfect people in need of a Holy God, and, yes, we need to confess our sins and seek to turn from them. We also need to know we are deeply loved and created by God not to benefit ourselves, but to bring glory to Him and love others well, including ourselves!
Negativity may sell newspapers, but they get thrown away.
So, if you are a self-critic you need to say, “Whose side are you on?” Then you need to fire yourself and RE-HIRE yourself as a “Personal Coach!” Great coaches invest, train, correct, encourage and lead. When you lead yourself in this way, then you can coach others and invest.
Words? Well, they will either bring heavenly rewards or not…
Revelation 22:12, “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.”
We need to remember that people have souls and thus will have an eternity….we get to choose how and where we will spend it. Heaven is a free gift. It comes from a confession of sin and an invitation of Jesus into your heart and life.
Plain and simple–every word we speak will ring in eternity. Our words carry weight. They may seem fleeting but they carry a price tag…we get to set the price/value. Scripture teaches much about how we are to use our words, “Do not let ANY unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but ONLY what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption,” [emphasis mine, Ephesians 4:29-30].
When it says, “so that it may benefit those who listen”….don’t ever forget that means our “self-talk.” Maybe you need to start there. Who knows? It may lead to a whole new life that you don’t only live, but you speak to others!
In God’s economy, would the stock market be crashing or thriving with the value you are placing on your words?
