Wearing a new dress, top or shoes always brings “momentum” to my step! Maybe for someone else it is new running shoes, new music, a new golf club, etc. You get the picture. “NEW” can spice things up or give you a new outlook on the day!
The question I ask myself…at least weekly is…”Do I like what I am getting?” I look at my progress spiritually, the things I know God has called me to do, my relationships, my spending. Basically my Return on my investment in all areas of my life. Often times if I am not satisfied in an area, I take a deeper look into that area and ask myself: What do I need to do to make this better, to create momentum? There are a few things I have found that work.
1. New direction/vision
2. New program
3. More time
I agree with the statement…”If you do the things you’ve always done….you are gonna get what you have always gotten!” And I also believe, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” You have to look at areas of your life and decide if you need a change in direction or do you need to keep on keeping on and trust God’s perfect timing.
I went in a new direction several years ago by changing up my quiet time–the place, the length and the structure–a BRAND NEW PROGRAM. From 30 minutes to 2 hours. From reading my Bible to watching a 30 minute sermon online, reading my Bible, journaling, reading another Christian book that highlighted scripture, sitting quietly and having an extended prayer time with instrumental music. Psalm 46:10 took on new meaning. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
IT was a quiet time OVERHAUL. Result? EXTREME MOMENTUM…for my life….for my purpose. It opened my ears to hearing a Holy GOD. I found a renewed passion in Jeremiah 29:11-13. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
My life, my attitude, my thoughts, my reactions completely changed for the better. With my program change came new direction. A new investment in those around me. Two books and more coming. A daily blogging ministry and traveling and speaking.
You may have a vibrant quiet time. Maybe you just need to spend more time. Or maybe just getting STILL for a longer period of time and LISTENING. If I could give one thing to other people, it would be what I have found in making a change…realizing the way you have always done something may be in desperate need of an OVERHAUL…doing a totally new thing.
I encourage you today…to take a step back…take an inventory of your heart condition….your life condition….your thought condition. If ain’t broke, then KEEP on KEEPING ON. But if you see dull, stagnant, uneventful…THEN IT IS TIME FOR…NEW. It is time to “SHAKE UP” your direction….your time….your program.
Don’t have an “unintended blindness” to what you need to do…to gain MOMENTUM in your life. I can testify…ALL momentum in life….is triggered by your unrushed, HANG OUT TIME with God! It is there that the NEW <<<the MOMENTUM>>> the Direction….is Found.
Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.”
