“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Self talk! What we say to ourselves is extremely important to the outcome of our lives. Whether positive or negative, our actions are inspired by our thoughts. Of course we can’t positive think our way to a great life. But positive self talk is God’s desires for us rather than negative self talk that we all can get trapped in. Philippians 4:8 states, “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” God created us so He knows the brain will believe what you tell it the most. He desires for us to “positive affirm ourselves.” We are His creation, created to do good works.
It is extremely important to give special attention to the “auto pilot” we allow our brains to function on. If we are inclined to think negatively and talk down to ourselves, we need to make a change. In order to make a change we have to change the way we think. Then it will change the way we feel about ourselves, which will dramatically change the actions we take.
Examine your thoughts. What is a struggle for you right now? God loves you and He desires for you to “positive self talk” to realize that you were created in His image. Ask God to show you in His word what is true. I encourage you to make a Positive affirmation statement for yourself and read it daily. God gives us hundreds of positive affirmation statements in Scripture:
God gives me power when I am worn out, and strength when I am weak. Isaiah 40:8
With God in my life, all things are possible. Matthew 19:26
I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God. Psalms 139:14
God is for me so no one can ever be against me. Romans 8:31
As I draw near to God, He draws near to me. James 4:8
I can never be separated from the love of God. Romans 8: 35-39
Start to embrace your life and all that God has for you! He desires a life of significance for you and it starts with how you see yourself. And that would be by seeing yourself the way God sees you! In Proverbs 23:7 it says, “for as a man thinketh, so he is…..”
I’m not talking about what some call the “power of positive thinking”. I am talking about the power found in the word of God that changes us all. Yes! As a matter of fact, the most powerful words you can speak over your life are the words found in the Word of God. God said that His Word will never return void. (It will never fail to do what it was intended to do.) It will never fail to bear fruit in your life.
