Your Mind Is Your Greatest Asset

In God’s economy we find that “His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.” Very often in this economy, instead of changing our circumstances, God is waiting on us to change our minds, or “renew them” as described in Romans 12:2. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be TRANSFORMED by the RENEWING of your MIND. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–His GOOD, PLEASING and PERFECT WILL” [emphasis added].

On the Back 9 I can say for certainty that no real definable change happens in your life…until you “change your mind!”

Follow me here. Every action we take is preceded by a thought so:

1. Because our thoughts control our life it is extremely important to understand and evaluate how you think, what you think and what influences your thinking. Proverbs 4:23, “Be careful how you think, how you think shapes your life” (English version).

When you learn to manage your MIND, you learn to manage your life. I am saying…the power of your thoughts has the power to shape your life. Feelings don’t shape your life…beliefs do!!!!

Just ponder this…sometimes what you believe can be false. God’s word is clear…”You shall know the truth…and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). We have to KNOW truth–God’s word. It is there that true power for your thoughts can shape your life.

2. Our minds are the battleground for sin. Sin always starts with a temptation in the mind! Romans 7:22-23, “I love to do God’s will so far as my new nature is concerned, but there is something else deep within me that is at war with my mind and wins the fight and makes me a slave to sin within me. In my mind I want to be God’s servant but instead I find myself still enslaved to sin.” Paul knew very well that even with a “new nature–salvation” we will still battle our fleshly desires/our old nature. That battle starts in the mind!

3. Renewing of our minds is a must! Renewing our minds means to manage our minds and how we think. If we choose not to manage what we think…what we read…what we watch…what we absorb…then our minds…are “unmanaged”. A mind managed with the Truth of God’s word leads to peace, confidence, reassurance, guidance, tranquility, and security. If we choose to “unmanage” our mind, it leads to pressure, tension, stress, disbelief and ultimately death. The opposite of life is death. WE can be alive but spiritually dead in our minds.

Romans 8:6, “If your sinful nature controls your mind there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your minds there is life and peace.” Or another version states it this way, “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

Plain and simple….Whatever gets your attention gets you!

Our mind is our greatest asset. God gives us free will. We get to choose.

How are you using your mind?

Are you managing your thoughts?

Or do you even pay attention to where you mind goes?

We are blessed with brilliant minds. If we don’t manage them with the truth of God’s word…blocking out our flesh…our sinful nature…even when we have received Jesus as our Lord and Savior…we can lead a defeated life. You have heard it said, “He/she is so heavenly minded he/she is no earthly good.” NOT, a BIG NOT. I totally disagree. I believe that unless we manage our minds and say no to the flesh, unless we focus on Jesus and the truth of God’s word, then “We are so earthly minded that we are no heavenly good.”

This world…our life…is a “vapor” but how we live it…starting with our minds…will speak volumes. What will you lay at the feet of Jesus in eternity? Will the Lord say of you, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”? (see Matthew 25:23).

A life well spent for Christ begins with a mind well managed.
