Children, Our Treasure

We worry what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.

I love children and I love the story found in John 6:5-15 where Jesus fed the 5,000 from a boy’s lunch of 5 small barley loaves and 2 small fishes. We read that there was a great crowd following Jesus. He had been performing miracles by healing the sick. The crowd followed him to the mountainside near the Sea of Galilee. It was getting late and Jesus on purpose asked Philip, his disciple, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?”

Scripture tells us that Jesus asked this as a test, for “he already had in mind what he was going to do.” As the story goes, Jesus had everyone sit down then took the boy’s lunch and divided it up. It fed all 5,000 and there were 12 baskets left over.

As I think about the story I wonder how young the boy was? I wonder what he told his mom when he got home? I think about how God used him and his lunch to perform the miracle. I know that God uses kids today.

I encourage you to pray for your children and all kids, because God uses them too! We may not know how or when because they may not even know, but children are loved by God and are used by him. Mark 10:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Today, have loving hearts toward all children. Realize children are GREAT imitators and give them something great to imitate.
