As I study scripture I am keenly aware that I/we can even deceive ourselves about the “Why?” of our actions. (our motives drive our actions) The same God who stopped the sun as a result of Joshua’s prayers to give him victory over his enemies, is the same Lord who weighed Joshua’s heart then and is the same God with the same power who weighs my/your heart now. In Proverbs 21:2 it teaches us, “A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.” As we go about our daily lives it is to our greater good to open our hearts before the Lord for examination. In Proverbs 22:4, we learn, “Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches honor and life.” Who doesn’t want all of that? In light of who God is, “The Sun-Stopper,” “The Life Giver,” the only one who discerns our Hearts…we know that,“There is no wisdom, no insight, NO PLAN that can succeed against the Lord.” Proverbs 21:30 It is a daily/hourly discipline to defer to God’s will,God’s way opposed to ours. Seeking to do this daily, I do give way to my sinful flesh at times, thankfully God is quick to convict my spirit, I daily ask Him to. HE will never not answer that prayer for any of us! Scripture is FULL of Promises for the Heart that is bent toward God, it doesn’t promise a life without pain and adversity but I have found that is when I see God show up and show out in my life the most. When things are easy and smooth I am so tempted to rely on myself but when things get hard, “the deck seems stacked against me,” “the odds are not in my favor,” “things are out of my control,” that is when relying on the “sun-stopper,” becomes exciting because I know that if my heart is bent and surrendered to Him, I have nothing to fear! Surrender to the one who can “Stop the Sun,” He promises to hold you guide you and avenge you. WE just don’t get to say how or when but we can trust Him, when we completely surrender to Him.
