When The “If’s” Come….

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21

This is a scripture that drives me and holds me accountable to keeping my “eyes, mind and heart” where God designed them to be. It can be a strong personal battle for me. Our enemy, Satan, is very good at disguising the temptations that come my way and making them appear to be needs instead of wants.

Just 2 chapters before this verse in Matthew 4, we can read and study how Satan works his plan and how he tempted Jesus and tried to appeal to worldly treasures, Matt. 4:8b “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” It is no different when Satan tempts us.

Satan loves to use the word “if” when tempting. “IF,” you do “this” then “I will give you this” ….When the “if’s” start coming I have to stop myself…and say, “Is this from you God?” Often, I ask myself when I have “halted” mentally from the “if” whispers to say…will this rust, spoil (earthly treasure) or is this a heavenly treasure, one that will be waiting for me in eternity.

Often I have to remind myself that this life is a “mist,” but how I spend this “mist” which is our life can bring rewards in eternity or not, it is my choice. All that I have is His not mine. I usually follow up my asking with this verse, “No one can serve two masters, Either you will hate one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Self-seeing is the hardest thing to do, God reads and knows our hearts better than we do ourselves, I have found when I stop to ask and seek HIM, He is faithful and willing to tenderly show me the way. Like Jesus, when tempted in the desert, God will send His angels to comfort..Matthew 4:11, “Then the devil left him (Jesus) and angels came and attended him.”

God is so faithful..use His word to battle all temptations from the enemy and trust when you seek Him, you will find Him! #heavenlyrewards
